Back to Our Past Show, Dublin Come and meet us! |

Famous Olympians! |

As the countdown to London Olympics 2012 is now well underway, what better way to mark this occasion than to remember Olympians who are also commemorated by the Commission.
We start this series by featuring Alfred Flaxman, whose story was sent in by 17 year old Kate Emery. Alfred was a member of South London Harriers and participated in several events for Great Britain in the 1908 London Olympics.

Guild of Battlefield Guides |

The Commission is delighted to be working in partnership with the The International Guild of Battlefield Guides, which was established in 2003.
Members of the Guild take thousands of individuals to the battlefields each year, working across all areas of guiding – school groups, military groups, veterans groups and the general public.

Civilian Memorial at Ford Park Cemetery, Plymouth |

As part of the Commission's supplemental Charter, the Commission records some 66,000 names of civilian war dead from the Second World War.
Using our records, Ford Park Cemetery Trust has recently erected a new memorial in the chapel at Ford Park Cemetery, Plymouth commemorating those civilians who died during the Second World War.

Villagers from Struan, Isle of Skye Remember their war dead |

Villagers of Struan, on the Isle of Skye have recently finished renovating their local war memorial.
The Struan War Memorial lists 14 casualties and includes information on the casualties and the cemeteries in which they are buried.

One Personal Story: Lt. The Hon. Edward Wyndham Tennant
Jon Witney, a regular reader of our newsletter, sent us his story on Lt The Hon Edward Tennant, more commonly known as Bim.
Jon has researched the family history of the Tennants and prepared a very interesting brief for the children at Bim's old prep school West Downs, near Winchester, which can be found here>>>>>
