Remembering Fromelles Exhibition - Imperial War Museum: opens July 2010
Remembering Fromelles: a new cemetery for a new century
Imperial War Museum, London
Opens July 2010
FREE ENTRY
Using specially commissioned photographs, this exhibition traces the story behind the first new Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery to be built in nearly half a century.
In May 2008, after several years of painstaking research and investigation, a number of group burials dating from the First World War were identified at Pheasant Wood, near Fromelles in northern France. A year later, archaeologists from Oxford Archaeology began to excavate the graves and by early September 2009 they had carefully removed the remains of 250 British and Australian soldiers, buried behind German lines after the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916. The British and Australian Governments asked the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to oversee the operation and to create a new military cemetery at Fromelles.

Armed Forces Day - 26 June
Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day is Saturday 26 June 2010. The day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, and from veterans to cadets.
Across the country people are getting involved: communities are holding local events and businesses are showing their support. The National Event is to be held in Cardiff, although this is just one event being held in support of Armed Forces Day.
Further information can be found on the Armed Forces Day website
Operation Dynamo - Dunkirk commemorations
The Commission was delighted to participate in the Dunkirk commemorations and even more delighted to be presented with an information panels settlement for our exhibition at The Remembrance Museum of Dunkirk manned by staff from our France Area office. It was a pleasure to meet more than 2,000 members of the public during the event.
One of our members of staff accompanied one of the 'little ships' during their crossing, filming some of the Commission's cemeteries and memorials to those who fell at Dunkirk and.speaking to some of the veterans who took part. Have a look at his new video which is available on our website.

Following our last newsletter when we asked if any of you had been involved, Mr Earp contacted us. He was one of a group of volunteers in Ramsgate, who organized a day of celebration on 26 May in Ramsgate this year .He hopes that this will lead to an annual event in Ramsgate commemorating Operation Dynamo. His group have produced a website, which provides information for next year and also about the commemorations this year.
Further information can be found on the Operation Dynamo Ramsgate website
