Welcome to this special edition of our newsletter, in which we are pleased to announce the launch of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s new website at

The website has undergone a major redesign aimed at improving  the user experience and the ease with which you find information about the CWGC, the work we do, and the men and women we commemorate.

In particular, the site has been made more colourful, dynamic and easy to navigate.

Some of the other changes are highlighted in the sections below.

Advanced Search

A greatly improved search facility enables you to search our records of the war dead by by surname, initials, forename, date of death, war, rank, regiment, service number, awards or any combination of those criteria.

Results can also be “Filtered”.

Find a Cemetery or Memorial

We have made searching for our cemeteries and memorials more straightforward, with searches by country, locality, and even size, now possible. And, where we have GPS data, the location of a cemetery can also be shown on Google maps.

Additional features

Register: Visitors can register for our newsletter AND/OR for the website itself – enabling you to save your searches and export them for work “offline”.

Site Search Tool: The ability to search any of the “static” pages or documents on the website in one go.

Cemetery Alerts: The latest cemetery and memorial information where you need it – with the cemetery record.

News and Events Calendar: From the latest anniversaries, ceremonies and happenings in our cemeteries, to CWGC exhibitions near you, please use our calendar of events to keep track of what’s on.

Publications: Displaying the range of material we have in a more engaging way. Share the documents, read them on line or download and print them – the choice is yours.

Future Plans

The launch of the new website is just the start of the story. We will continue to make improvements to the site and the search facility in the coming weeks and months – taking account of your feedback to deliver the service you want.

Future plans include a search on the "additional information"  field of our records and more.

The content of the site will be updated regularly, so please come back to read our latest news, events and other items.

Thank you

Finally, the Commission would like to express its gratitude to those members of the public whose suggestions have helped shape the development of the new site, and in particular to those individuals who took part in focus groups and prototype testing.

Thank you.

And finally.....

The regular monthly newsletter will be released later in February.

Thank you for your continued feedback.
